You and I are on the same page pretty much across the board, puppetmaster; I couldn't agreee more about Harry Potter (but hey, if it gets the kids reading...)and that creep Cameron.

Some very strong points that contributed to the impact of "The Exorcist"--brilliant sound recording and sound editing, a brilliant aural performance by Mercedes McCambridge as the voice of the demon, and some frightening imagery and subdued effects other than the famous shock scenes you mentioned (The priest's mother in the ghastly hospital--"Djimmi, why you do this to me, why ?" "Can ya help an old altar boy, Fada") and very moody and evocative use of locations in Georgetown (DC).

Also note strong and laid back performances by Max von Sydow and Lee J. Cobb.

Have you seen "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" ? I took a look prepared to hate it, but in the event I thought it had more than a little to recommend it. Might want to check that one out.
